What's my proxy and IP
Your public IP address and what websites see about you: country, city, provider, browser and OS. A quick way to check whether the IP changed after connecting a proxy.
What My IP shows
A short note on every field of the result. Details are in the sections below.
What is an IP address
An IP address is the number of a device or network on the internet. Websites see your public IP and use it to tell your country, city and provider. Addresses come in IPv4 and IPv6.
How to find your IP address
Your IP address is shown as soon as the page opens — in the top block. Nothing to click: it is the address you use to go online right now, and every website sees it.
There are other ways to see an address, but they do not always show the same thing:
- In the router settings — the external address issued by your provider. It usually matches the one on this page.
- In the system (ipconfig on Windows, ifconfig or ip a on macOS and Linux) — the local address inside your home or office network. Websites do not see it.
- On this page — the public address, including a proxy or VPN if one is connected. This is the one to check.
Public vs local IP
| Public IP | Local IP | |
|---|---|---|
| Who sees it | All websites and services on the internet | Only devices in your network |
| Who assigns it | Your ISP, mobile carrier or proxy | Your router |
| Examples | Any address outside private ranges | 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.16–31.x.x |
| Where to see it | On this page | In the device network settings |
Several devices at home usually go online under one public IP — the router gives them local addresses.
IPv4 and IPv6
IPv4 is the familiar format of four numbers from 0 to 255 separated by dots, e.g. 203.0.113.24. IPv6 is a long address of eight groups of hexadecimal digits separated by colons. It was introduced because there are not enough IPv4 addresses for everyone.
One connection can have both. This matters with proxies: if the proxy works over IPv4 only and IPv6 is enabled in the system, some requests may go directly. Check it with the DNS Leak Test.
What websites learn from your IP
From your IP a website learns:
- the country — almost always accurately;
- the region and city — approximately, from IP databases;
- the provider and network number (ASN);
- the connection type — home internet, mobile carrier or datacenter;
- the expected time zone and language — and compares them with your browser settings.
Your name, phone and exact address cannot be found from an IP. Details about any address are in IP Lookup.
Why your IP changes by itself
Most home connections have a dynamic address: the provider may issue a new one after a router restart or after some time. A permanent (static) IP is usually a separate option from the provider.
In mobile internet, many subscribers often share one public IP, and the address changes when you reconnect to the network.
How to find your proxy address
Connect the proxy and open this page: the “IP address” block will show the proxy server address, and the country and provider will be the proxy ones, not yours.
The proxy port, login and password are not visible here — they are in your provider dashboard and in the settings of the app where you connected the proxy.
How to check that a proxy works
- 1Open this page without a proxy and note the IP and country.
- 2Connect the proxy in your browser, app or antidetect browser.
- 3Reload the page: the IP, country and provider should change to the proxy ones.
- 4If it is a rotating proxy, reload again: the address should change.
- 5Run the DNS Leak Test to make sure your real address is not exposed through DNS or WebRTC.
The IP did not change? Check the proxy in the proxy checker and the app settings.
How to change your IP address
| Method | Result | Country choice |
|---|---|---|
| Restart the router | A new address if the IP is dynamic | No |
| Reconnect mobile internet | A new carrier address | No |
| Connect a proxy | The proxy server address; you can choose the IP type and rotation | Yes — country, and city or carrier for some proxies |
| Connect a VPN | The VPN server address for the whole device | From the VPN server list |
